I Really Don’t Know Clouds At All, Part 1

Recently, I found a bunch of “sky anomaly” photos on my computer that I took in New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern Colorado from 2012 to 2016. From time to time, I’d like to share some of them here.

The pictures below were taken on March 30, 2012, over the course of 8 minutes – from 4:13 to 4:21p, on I-25 South, Santa Fe, NM. I included time stamp and location for each shot, along with a map image of the route I was driving. The skies were clear, with the exception of a few wispy clouds here and there.

Yes, I’m driving and taking pics. There was no way I was going to let this slip by me. There are hills in the foreground and the mountain you see in the distance is Sandia Mountain in Albuquerque. These “clouds” formed over the flatland area. I pulled off the highway a few miles down the hill (from the last photo), looked back, and they were gone.

I checked in with how my body was feeling, which is my best barometer for this kind of phenomenon. I was both disoriented and electrified. Do lenticular clouds do that? People that know me or have read my book know that my contact experiences have been far more intimate and close up than the sky, occurring more often within my domicile or very nearby. Funny, I’ve always claimed that I’d never seen saucers, but maybe I have? And if they are “just” lenticular clouds, well, pretty cool, huh?
